Counting Environmental Benefits from CWA/NPDES Brine Cases for FY 2010 (09.07.2010)

Counting Environmental Benefits from CWA/NPDES Brine Cases for FY 2010

The Measures Review Board (MRB) met on August 30, 2010 and reached a final decision concerning FY 2010 reporting of environmental benefits from CWA/NPDES brine cases. For FY 2010, Regions are to report the environmental benefits from brine cases to ICIS as pounds of total dissolved solids. These pounds will be counted, along with pounds from other enforcement cases, in the pollutants reduced, treated or eliminated environmental benefits category.

The MRB also decided that beginning in FY 2011 the environmental benefits from NPDES brine cases will be counted differently, as gallons of brine reduced and, possibly, also as stream miles protected from brine contamination.
