Penalties That Are Allocated to the Oil Spill Trust Fund (03.04.2011)

Penalties That Are Allocated to the Oil Spill Trust Fund

All penalties allocated for Oil Spill Trust Fund should be entered into the 'EPA' field located on the penalty screen, and not to the 'Federal Agency/Dept. Other Than EPA:' field (also located on the penalty screen.)

If a portion of penalties should be allocated to the Oil Spill Trust Fund, all the penalties assessed should be totaled together and entered in the 'EPA' field.

The money from these oil spill actions must go into this trust fund which is managed by the US Coast Guard but the money is obtained as a direct result of EPA's order.  Although the money is being paid to a different account, EPA still receives credit for the penalty assessed.  For EPA to receive credit for these penalties, the amounts must be included in the 'EPA' field.
